Georgian traditional wrestling, Chidaoba, have influenced modern wrestling development and determined success of Georgian wrestlers and Judo players in the world now. History of Chidaoba goes back to ancient time. Chidaoba can trace Georgian history back over a thousands years as a form of self-defense. The Caucasus region, where was a trade route between Asia and Europe by the Silk road, has prospered as a trading point of ethnicity and culture. In Georgia, where has been located in South Caucasus, a number of ethnic groups, religions and cultures have complicatedly intertwined as an important relay place between Europe, Central Asia and Middle East. While there are multicultural of various ethnicities, complex ethnic composition have became a source of many conflicts in there. Due to geopolitical significance, Georgia has experienced many conflicts with a number of ethnic and territorial issues. It is said that martial arts and wrestling in Georgia have expanded as a means of self-defense to protect their ethnicity, religion and culture. Chidaoba is not only a traditional martial arts to Georgian, but also it has been continued to hand down as their culture of protect their identities to this day.
