Japan General Election 2026

On February 8, 2026, Japan held its 51st general election for the House of Representatives. With the cost of living and national security as the central issues, the Liberal Democratic Party secured a historic landslide victory, winning 316 seats. The opposition coalition suffered a crushing defeat, losing more than two-thirds of its seats. Voter turnout stood at 56.26%.
